Lady BEARS advance to BUCS Cup Final

Wednesday saw both the men's and women's teams competing for a place in their respective BUCS Cup finals.

First up were the women, taking on London rivals Queen Mary. The Lady BEARS entered the game confident having already defeated QM 47-35 last month and proved far too strong for their opposition, dominating the game from start to finish and an emphatic 79-26 win. The team advances to the BUCS Cup Final for the first time since the competition was introduced last season, and will meet another University of London team, LSE.

The men's team played host to Essex who currently sit atop the division above RHUL. Coming off the back of a lack luster performance against rivals UCL on Sunday, the team started well and led for the vast majority of the game. However, a disappointing final five minutes by the BEARS, combined with increasing intensity from the visitors, saw Essex edge ahead with minutes to go and snatch victory. The loss was the second semi final defeat for the team this season, but with both ULU and BUCS leagues still winnable the team still have a chance of bringing home some silverware again this season.

Lady BEARS win crucial game against Kent 49-45

Having lost to Kent by two points at home in December, the task was simple: go to Kent and win by more than two or forget the league title for another year. Not only was the league title at stake, but promotion back to Division I, a feat that has eluded the Lady BEARS for two years since they were wrongfully dumped into Division II following the scandalous actions of University of Chichester Students' Union in 2007.

The win of four points saw Royal Holloway edge ahead of Kent on points difference and, subject to winning their remaining three games, the BEARS will be crowned league champions next month for the first time in three years.
