After the outstanding win against University of Kent in February, the aim for the remaining games of the season was crystal clear: win and nothing else. At stake was a first-place position in the BUCS League and promotion from this season's 2A, to the top league, 1A.
Having won most games during the season in the BUCS League by at least 20-30 points, Royal Holloway Lady Bears felt rightfully confident in finishing off the season and secure the first-place and promotion to 1A. Besides the University of Kent, the only team to beat RHUL in BUCS, the only real competition came from the University of Chichester, and this team provided the opposition in the final, and deciding game.
With confidence from the recent ULU Cup final, and a coming BUCS Cup final, Royal Holloway welcomed Chichester to Nobles, fully determined to win, and further avenge the historical scandal which has infected the relationship between the two teams. A lot more had been expected of Chichester, who could only stand up fairly decent in the first half of the game, whereupon Royal Holloway easily put in points and prevented Chichester from doing so at the same time.
When the referees indicated the end of the game, Royal Holloway stood winners of yet another competition and could celebrate not only the top placement, but also promotion to 1A, and a prospective season filled with excitement. The goal of the season, as agreed upon at the very beginning of the season, had been fulfilled, and coach Tasha Green was very proud of her team and the tough goal they had set as a distant dream in September 2009, which was now, 7 months later, reality.
In 1A, the ladies will encounter a higher quality of basketball, and hope to develop even more as a team and individually.
