Club Colours 2008

The traditional end of season BBQ and awards took place in June, hosted by Women's Treasurer, Eleanor Hughes.

In addition to each receiving an award for their commitment and performance this year, five of the women's team also picked up individual awards for outstanding achievement.

Candice Moses was awarded Most Improved Player 2007/08 in recognition of her development as a player over the course of the season. The second year guard improved all areas of her game from the previous season, developing into a solid back up point guard and commanding more and more minutes each game.

Candice also scooped this year's Players' Player trophy. All players were asked to nominate a player they felt not only contributed heavily to the team's success on the court, but also made the season all the more enjoyable off-court too.

Thessy Garganese picked up the Rookie of the Year and the Most Valuable Player award after an exceptional first season at the club in which she led the team in scoring and assists.

The BBQ also provided a chance to say goodbye to senior forwards Jennifer Kehlbeck and Tsungai Mumbengegwi. The club wishes them well for the future!

Last year's MVP, Nika Sever, returns to the team next season after spending her junior year in Spain through a study exchange program as part of her degree. The Slovenian sophmore sensation averaged 10.5ppg during the 2006-07 campaign and will add some much needed fire power to the team in 2008-09.

Last year's Rookie of the Year, Alice Couten, also returns for next season after sitting out this year through injury. Alice averaged 14.1ppg last season and will complete the best back court line up in Lady Bears history when she joins Sever, Moses and Gaganese.

Well done to all those involved in both men's and women's basketball this season, it was a great year for both clubs! Bring on 2008/09!
