The RHUL women's team made it three wins in a row with another convincing win Wednesday afternoon. Holloway had edged Essex by just four points in the two teams first meeting of the season, but this time the team demonstrated their improvement since then, beating the visitors by thirty-two.
Holloway started very strongly, going inside to first year powerhouse Elle Hughes who dropped in eight first quarter points.
The second saw RHUL deliver eleven unanswered points with guards Alice Couten and Nika Sever playing tenacious defence and spearheading the team's offence. The team finished the half with a twenty-four point lead.
Essex came alive in the third however, taking advantage of Holloway's complacency, winning the quarter 19-11.
Holloway regained control in the fourth despite continued pressure from Essex, especially their talented number 11 who had almost changed the outcome the first time the teams met. Six RHUL players combined to finish the quarter 20-8 and seal a 70-38 victory overall.
Coach Bailes appeared not to be entirely happy with his team's performance, "Whilst it's pleasing to get another win in the BUSA league, I felt we got complacent at times and allowed Essex to come back at us. In future we simply cannot allow this to happen, we must maintain focus through the full forty minutes regardless of the score. We'll have to work extremely hard in practice this week to get ready for our biggest game of the season against Brunel next week".
The team's final game of 2006 sees them travel to Brunel on Wednesday December 13th.
